Fixtures – 5-8′ s In House Hub

Hamersley Rovers Junior FC prides itself on being a development club and as such, is looking for ways to improve our kids skills while having fun.

Over the past several years, the Football West 6s and 7s Hub format intention of promoting skills, fun and development for both the kids and volunteer coaches has not been followed by all Clubs as we would like to see.
So the committee thought it was time to try something new.
In 2016, in conjunction with Pro Football Training, HRJFC initiated an in-house 6s & 7s programme, using a combination of in-house skill training / small sided games (SSG’s).
This year, we will introduce regular carnival weekends with other like minded clubs (Week 5, 11 and possibly 15).
The programme is open to children ages 5, 6,7 and 8 with a December 31st birthday cut-off date.

Why we think this is the right approach?

Some facts about formal game play

From a recent study of ball possession and touches conducted on professional footballers in the French League1, it was found that over the course of a 90 minute game the average time in possession was 53.4 s with an average duration of 1.1 s, and 2 touches per possession.
In soccer, what do kids want at a development stage? To touch the ball, to score a goal and to have the ball on their feet as much as possible. The current structure does not allow that. Given the skill level of youth players, the reduced length of matches and the fact that most players do not play the entire match, their average number of possessions and touches per match is probably on the order of 15-20.
Skill development and small-sided games offer players many touches, accomplished at varying pace and under varying levels of space or pressure. The objective of our in-house 5-8’s programme is to introduce the kids and just as importantly the parent/volunteer coaches to this fun filled development approach using professional coaches with a strong reputation to promote the Hamersley Way of coaching.
